At the beginning of the founding of New China, China's dye industry has a certain scale, with an annual output of 5,200 tons. The products are mainly sulphur dyes, and there are a small amount of acid dyes and direct dyes. After 70 years of hard work, China's dye industry has shifted from the original state-owned enterprises to the new situation of private enterprises. Both the production level and the production scale have been ranked among the best in the world.

After the founding of New China, the development of China's dye industry has entered a new stage. As early as February 1949, the Dalian Dyestuff Factory began to resume production and became the first dye factory in New China. In January 1956, the state-owned Shanghai Dyestuff Industry Company was established. In the same year, Tianjin Dyestuff Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. was established; The dye dye backbone enterprise invested by the Chinese government, the Jilin Dyestuff Factory, has put an important step in the high-end dyeing industry. In 1964, the Beijing Dyestuff Factory moved to the southeastern suburb of Beijing for expansion, becoming the domestic key dye production at that time. One of the companies.

On the eve of reform and opening up, China's dye industry has gradually formed a pattern of dye industry including 12 major state-owned enterprises in Shanghai and Tianjin dyestuff factories and Jilin dyestuff factories. After the reform and opening up, at the same time as the state-owned dye enterprises were transformed, a large number of township, joint venture, and private dye enterprises began to establish and developed rapidly, especially the rise of private dye enterprises represented by Zhejiang, and the institutional transformation and structure of the national dye enterprises. Adjustments have played a catalytic role.

In the late 1990s, China's major dye production bases gradually shifted from Jilin, Shanghai and Tianjin, which were mainly state-owned enterprises, to Zhejiang and Jiangsu, which were dominated by private enterprises. The annual dye production in these two provinces accounted for about 80% of the country's total, and the amount of dye exports was close to 70% of the country.

In the past 70 years, China's dye industry has undergone earth-shaking changes. First, the scale of production and variety have grown by leaps and bounds, and it has become the world's largest dye producing country.

At present, the production capacity has accounted for more than two-thirds of the world's total dye production capacity; more than 1,200 dyes can be produced, and more than 600 varieties are often produced. In 2018, China's dye production was 812,000 tons, organic pigment production was 222,000 tons, dyed pigment intermediate production was 437,000 tons, and sales revenue totaled 68.15 billion yuan.

Second, technological innovation has become the core driving force for the development of the industry and has achieved a number of scientific research results. In the creation of new products, production companies and research institutes have started a wider range of research and development work involving all categories of dyes, organic pigments and textile auxiliaries and related intermediates. In the upgrading of equipment, the large-scale synthesis reaction equipment successfully solved the engineering technical problems of mass transfer and heat transfer in large reactors.

Third, international cooperation has been continuously strengthened. In 2004, Hangzhou Lily Flower Chemical Co., Ltd. and Clariant jointly established Hangzhou Lily Clariant Pigment Co., Ltd.; in October 2007, Zhejiang Longsheng and India KIRI Dyestuff Company jointly established LonsenKiri Dyestuff Company in India; in 2009, Zhejiang Longsheng acquired The global dye giant Germany DyStar Dye Company; in 2011, Zhejiang Bauxite and Yorkshire Dyestuff Group Co., Ltd. cooperated and reorganized; In 2016, Zhejiang Chuanhua Group acquired Dutch Tana Chemical Company.

The fourth is to pay full attention to safety and environmental protection, and clean production has made remarkable progress. In terms of products, enterprises and scientific research institutions start from the source and vigorously develop environmentally friendly dyes and substitutes for carcinogenic aromatic amine dyes. At present, China has successfully developed nearly 500 new environmentally friendly dyes, and environmentally friendly dyes have exceeded two-thirds of all dyes.

In terms of “three wastes” treatment, the end treatment is strengthened, membrane filtration and pure pulp drying are used to reduce the amount of wastewater; MVR technology and multi-effect evaporation technology are used to treat waste acid and acid-containing wastewater.

In terms of safety production, continuous and automated processes are adopted, strict safety management and training are strengthened, safety knowledge and quality of relevant personnel are improved, and accident rates are minimized.
